Dear Emily

Emily, a friend from camp who was very dear to me, recently passed away from an overdose.
She struggled with severe depression from a very young age. I wrote this song in memory of her.

Dear Emily-I wanted to see you, keep seeing you to see you again. Sweet friend, you were important, you're still important, and you will be important to me.
And my heart is broken, my heart is breaking--that you felt you had to let go of this world. You were so strong--we'll all be stronger from knowing you.
Dear Emily, I wanted to show you, I needed to show you these treasures of mine. I knew you. I knew the heart beating in you! I didn't want to say good bye yet.
Dear Emily, You were a sister to me. We loved the same things. I can't believe I won't see you again. Dear Emily, You were stronger than anyone could see. I will miss you until I see you again.

And my heart is broken, you could have spoken to someone about this. But how many more times would you have come up with another way?

Dear Emily, I don't know if you have regrets, I don't know where your heart was, I don't know where you are now. But Emily, you were loved. You are loved. Your memory will be loved.

But I wish it was you.
